The Company

Grey Coast Theatre was formed in 1992 by the Caithness-born poet and playwright George Gunn. The company aims to create indigenous Northern Scottish Theatre, bringing a fresh perspective into the mainstream of Scottish drama. Grey Coast Theatre offers new opportunities for artists from the Highlands and Islands, by providing a platform for their work.

Since 1992, the company has produced seven major touring projects, all with a distinctive North Highland flavour. Beginning with Songs of the Grey Coast in 1992, leading up to Egil, Son of the Night Wolf in 1998, and Atomic City in 1999, Grey Coast presents a unique kind of theatre; depicting life in the rural North of Scotland in a way that is passionate, original and stunningly down to earth.

In 2001 Grey Coast will tour a new play entitled Farm Land by Ross-shire writer Bess Ross. The company will mount the third annual Playharvest programme, this year encorporating both a community-based Playharvest Open and a more intensive professional workshop session in October.
